VYCERRO (Research Institute for Competitive and Sustainable Regional Development) was established in 2009 drawing upon the cooperation between Jan Evangelista Purkyne University in Usti nad Labem (UJEP) and the University of Economics in Prague, being supported by Usti nad Labem Region. Its foundation was preceded by memorandum of cooperation between the University of Economics in Prague, Jan Evangelista Purkyne University in Usti nad Labem (UJEP) and Usti nad Labem Region signed on May 2 in 2008.
The memorandum has proclaimed the necessity of competitiveness between the region, on one hand, and the mostly developed countries of the European Union and of the World, on the other. The proclaimed competitiveness aims at research, developments of scientific disciplines and at higher applicability of their results, and implies necessary improvements of the research environment in the Usti nad Labem Region. The VYCERRO focuses on development of labour market, and on most recent trends in ecology and other problems concerning the whole society. The cooperation with other Czech and foreign universities and with research institutes is of prime interest. The mission of the centre is to improve the prestige of the Usti nad Labem Region, and to secure the better connection among educational institutions, research facilities, and public administration.
